Short answer: where you pick up a pocket WiFi at Narita
Narita has post offices in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and both are open every day from 8:30 to 20:00. Terminal 1's is on the 4th floor departure lobby; Terminal 2's is on the 3rd floor departure lobby.
Terminal 3 has no post office. If you are flying into T3, choose the Terminal 2 post office and take the free shuttle bus, which takes about 5 minutes.
Compared with Haneda, Narita is the easier airport for this. It is open on weekends and it stays open three hours later, so most arrival times work.
Does Narita Airport have free WiFi?
Yes. All three Narita terminals offer free wireless internet, and you do not need to register to connect. For checking a train time or messaging someone that you have landed, it does the job.
The catch is what happens next. Narita sits about 60 to 90 minutes from central Tokyo, and once you board the train or the bus, the airport network is behind you. That stretch is exactly when people want to look up a transfer, confirm a hotel address in Japanese, or work out which exit to use at a station they have never seen. Airport WiFi does not follow you out of the building.
This is why it is worth sorting out a connection before you fly rather than after you land.

Both post offices are in the departure lobby, not the arrivals floor. After you clear customs you will come out on the arrivals level, so you need to go up one or two floors. Follow the signs for check-in counters and the post office is on the same level.

Arriving at Terminal 3
Terminal 3 is Narita's low-cost carrier terminal and it has no staffed post office. Free shuttle buses run between the terminals and the ride from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 takes about 5 minutes. There is also a connecting walkway between T2 and T3, though it is a long walk with luggage.
When you order, simply choose the Terminal 2 post office as your pickup point. Allow about 20 to 30 minutes for the transfer, including waiting for the bus and finding the counter.
How to collect your device
- Order before you fly and choose your Narita post office as the pickup point. This is a pre-order service, not a walk-up counter, so the device is sent ahead and waits for you.
- Enter your name exactly as it appears in your passport. If the name on the package does not match your ID, the post office cannot release it. This is the most common reason a pickup goes wrong.
- Keep the tracking number. It arrives in the delivery information email once the package ships, and it is also in My Page.
- After customs, go up to the departure lobby — 4F at Terminal 1, 3F at Terminal 2 — and find the post office counter.
- Show your passport and give the tracking or order number. Check the contents before you leave: device, AC adapter, cable, and a prepaid return envelope. Keep the envelope for the end of your trip.
Will your flight give you enough time?
Narita's 20:00 closing time covers most arrivals, but not all. Immigration and baggage claim commonly take 45 to 90 minutes depending on the hour.

If Narita pickup does not fit your flight
A late arrival does not mean going without a connection. It only changes where your package waits.
A post office near your hotel
Any post office in Japan can be your delivery address, and some in central Tokyo are open around the clock. If you land late but stay in the city for a few nights, this is often the better choice. Bring your passport.
Delivery to your hotel
The package goes to the front desk and you collect it at check-in. The recipient name must match your hotel booking name exactly, and it helps to let the hotel know a package is on the way.
Delivery to an apartment
The package goes into the mailbox, so the address must be complete including the room number, and the name has to be one the carrier recognises. For short-term rentals, a nearby post office is usually safer.
Changing your delivery address or recipient name is free up to 5 days before your rental start date. Once the package has shipped, a transfer fee applies. If your flight moves, tell us early.
Returning the device at Narita
- Put the device, adapter and cable in the prepaid return envelope and seal it. Nothing else needs to go in.
- Drop it into any red postbox. Narita's terminals have postboxes, as do stations across Japan.
- There are no postboxes past security, so post it before you go through. This catches people out at Narita more than anywhere else, because the walk to the gates is long and it is easy to leave it too late.
- Do not ask hotel or airport staff to post it for you. If it goes missing, the charges are yours.
- Post it by midnight on your return date, or extend the rental in My Page. Extending costs less than a late charge.
